Last weekend we decided to accept our invitation to Drift Cleveland’s second annual The Drift Effect event. Last year it was off the hook, with amazing drivers like Mirro, Dennis, (why do these guys have such hard last names…I don’t know) and Mike Feiock, who I think took 3rd. It was a great track, clean facility and great people. So this year we’re going back, and our cars are running good! Last year we were plagued with all sorts of car issues, Bill’s turbo came apart, and Josh’s radiator blew up, and even after we rigged it up to work, and Bill and Josh were tag teaming in Josh’s car, Josh’s car broke again sending Bill into the wall. So this year we’re going in loaded for bear. So if you plan on being there, better look out cause’ Team Oneway is comin’!
Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of that age old question. Is 2 really better than one? Now I know much of you are thinking, hell ya, and in some situations, you’d be right. But there are those few situations that one is better, you know its like the whole Highlander deal, (I know I just dated myself) you know that whole “there can be only one” thing, and like that huge purple dinosaur, that sings that one song, don’t worry I won’t sing it. But my God, can the world really support another one of those? No matter how many screeming kids cry out. Anyway last season Bill “The highlife” ditched the old RB20 and upgraded his car with the amazing 1JZ. I’m sure many of you know that the 1jz Bill got wasn’t so “amazing”, and at MDU Round 2 it blew up…
So, since he had it all apart, Bill decided, hey lets do that single trubo thing… And the results say, daaayam…
Sometimes as we get older, our body sometimes just doesn’t look as good and youthful as it once did… Just ask your grandma, she’ll tell you that “youth is wasted on the young”. If I had a dime every time I heard that growing up from my grandparents, well, I’d have some money. Our cars get old looking too, especially after hitting stuff, like walls, guardrails and well, you get the idea. Mashed Potatoes and The Highlifes’ car isn’t any different, stuff is sagging and looking a little banged up, ok a lot banged up. Kind of like that aluminum can you smashed on your forehead at the last party you went to, then tried to stretch it out again. It just doesn’t look like it did… Or maybe it’s more like that cool tattoo that you blew your last tax refund check on. You know the one that you always show off to your buddies at parties, and hide from your mamma.
So anyway, we got with the guys over at Touge Factory in Chicago and they hooked us up with their new line of GTR styled wide body kits. These are the new Version Select kits that feature an added flare at the S13 body line that runs on the waist of the car. Needless to say they are so much better looking than the “bubble style” you find on ebay and the like. So the next time you see our cars make sure you check out the new body modifications that we have performed. Oh and make sure you give props to our newset member Josh #2 for all the paint work on the car! Thanks Josh #2!
We probably had one of the busiest weekends ever. Friday night The old DriftIndy was back, and the Rage was better than ever! We had the best time drifting in a long while. Even though our cars just kept on breaking, we had loads of fun driving under the lights at O’Riely Raceway Park. It started off good, Bill “The Highlife” got there early, and then Josh showed up late, (of course). As the night progressed, Bill blew a coolant hose and had a passenger with “happy feet” that pulled out some wires under the dash. Josh’s car Potatos’ was a different story, first a turbo coupler blew off, then the bottom radiator hose blew off, after another turbo coupler. Then near the end of the night a brake line snapped and he lost all brakes. Needless to say he was shaken up, especially after he was lined up to exit and blew through the exit at about 30mph. But all in all, it was a great event, the weather was perfect and the crowds were huge. We had a great time driving, and a great time meeting so many people and giving most of them rides! So many of them had never seen drifting in real life! It’s always fun giving someone a ride at their first ever drift event! They get hooked so fast…!
So without saying, we spent most of Saturday fixing our cars up! Then we loaded up and headed 230 miles north to Clio Michigan for The Midwest Drift Union’s round 2…
Bill "The Highlife" and Josh "lucky" Lining up for battle!
We awoke on Sunday morning to find the temperture was in the low 40′s, raining, and windy. And it wasn’t going to be much better as the day progressed. So we had breakfast at the hotel, then headed to the nearest Meijer Store to buy rain gear, and jackets. When we got there most of the drivers that stayed near the track were also doing the same! At drift events, there isn’t any “raining out”, they go on regardless, so you have to change as the track changes. Near 3:00 it fianally stopped raining, and the track started drying out, and most drivers were getting faster.
At qualifing time, Bill “The Highlife” qualified 1st, and Josh qualified 8th, now they only had a top 8. So that meant Josh and Bill would have to go against each other in the first round of tandem comp. The first round Bill “The Highlife” lead, and Josh followed. Bill made a nearly perfect run, and Josh goofed up his entry, entering very late on the bank. The next round Josh lead, and laid down an amazing run, with Bill spining out and actually going over the bank into the infield, causing a “one more time” from the judges. Again, Josh followed Bill, doing a much better entry this time, but somewhere during the first half of the run, Mashed Potatoe’s alternator belt came off, and Josh lost power straighting up near the end. Giving the advantage to Bill “The Highlife” Cook! The next round was Bill against Ohio native, Cody Tobe. This wasn’t as exciting, Bill handily took him down, progressing to the final round. The final round was Bill “The Highlife” against one of our good friends Kris Hackensen! This was epic, hands down the best driving of any drivers that we saw all weekend. Bill lead the first round, laying down a good solid run, Kris was really getting up close and personal with Bill. The first round driving was so good, the judges decided no advantage to either driver. The next round, well that was even better, Bill got so close to Kris that they almost touched, and you know… They should never touch..! Then near the end of the run, Kris spun out, allowing Bill to take the advatage, which meant, Bill WON THE EVENT! Yes I said Bill “The Highlife” Cook WON THE EVENT!!!!!! So congratulations Bill! You deserved it, great driving!!!!
We just got the trailer vinyl finished! It was alot harder than we thought, but we got it done. Its not all perfect, but it looks great! We really want to thank Randal and the crew over at Scorpion Sign and Graphics! Thanks for everything!!!
I know its filmed sideways, wasn’t filmed by us. Found this on youtube today. Thanks to whoever filmed it though! Near the end of the run, Josh started to loose power, but not to bad for the first run of the year!
This video is awesome! We had a 10 car Traindom, 10 cars= TOTAL MAYHEM!! Make sure you watch till the end, BILL HITS THE WALL!!

Last weekend we had our first event of the year! We had to go all the way down to Louisville Kentucky. It was at the Sportsdrome Speedway in Jeffersonville, IN. They recently paved the entire track, and the surface was as smooth as glass. We had a pretty good weekend, but we had to work out some pretty big bugs. Still, Bill placed 5th, getting knocked out by Kris Hackensen in the first round of tandem comp. We also want to give a big thumbs up tp Kris especially after taking first!
For starters, Bill’s car literally ripped the driver side motor mount in half, causing the motor to jump up and cut the top radiator hose. We found a local dude that had a stock ka mount After months and months of hard work on getting the Mega-squirt stand-alone system working, it worked flawlessly! The car made lots and lots of power, reved fast as hell, and sounded, “oh so 1jz good”!
Now Josh’s car, Mashed Potatoes, was a different story! He had worked on the car for just about 5 weekends before the event, putting cams and a new head gasket in. He even drove it around town and to work, but on the way down in the trailer, the water pump started leaking. So while sitting in line the stupid thing started overheating. So he got out on the track for 1 practice run, and that was it… The next run with a passenger in the car, the car just said “No!” And from that point on, it was pissed off the whole day! The same local guy that had the motor mount for Bill’s car also had a water pump, (HUGE PROPS TO THAT DUDE) BTW, if you know that dude, send an email to josh at jholt240@hotmail.com! He wants to talk t ya. We also think he got a speeding ticket running out to get us those parts! Sorry man, but thanks! Anyway, after we got the water pump on Potatoes, then the alternator stopped charging! WTH!! To wrap up this little story, we just wanted to give HUGE PROPS to all our sponsors, B. D. Racing for all their had work, Snow Performance, Truck Champ, and Scorpion Sign and Graphics, and MDU for puttin’ on one hell of an event! We couldn’t do it without you guys!
Josh getting sideways at MDU round 1 2011
It was a great event, after it was over we just kept saying that this was the best judged drift event ever! We know Mike Fieock had a lot to do with that aspect… It was great, not one person was saying that they were screwed by the judges!
Bill and Josh waiting in line...
Bill and Josh really love this track, Bill especially loved those walls, he just couldn’t keep his car off them!
So a little update on “Highlife’s” car. It runs great now, after a long winter of ecu issues. After installing mega-squirt and doing some tuning things are looking up. The first event is this weekend and I want to thank Sno-preformance for hooking our team up with their awesome kit. I also want to thank BD Racing for thier 2nd year of suppport. Truck Champ.com for there 2nd year of support. And south bend clutch for stepping up and giving us the hook up to put power to the ground.
Just wanted to let everybody know the schedule for 2011.

We are also going to do Hyperfest in West Virginia. This is an XDC event, so we are going to try and make it to this. Josh said it wasn’t fair he couldn’t drive it last year, even though he transported both Mike’s and Bill’s car there. Also Bill really liked the track, and can’t wait to go back!
